HOBART is on track for its warmest August on record even with the sudden wet and wild weather yesterday.
For only the fourth time in 120 years the city has had two consecutive days above 20C in August the others were in 1898, 1977 and 2005. The high temperature was over 20C on Wednesday and yesterday.
Weatherzone senior meteorologist Brett Dutschke said yesterday Hobart had effectively had only two months of winter, with spring-like conditions throughout this month.
"For Hobart, days have been a degree warmer than normal, nights three degrees warmer," Mr Dutschke said.
"Daytime temperatures have been more typical of September and nights more like October."
Slow-moving high-pressure systems over the Tasman Sea have been responsible for reducing the strength of cold fronts reaching Tasmania.
The previous record warm August was in 1982, when the combined average temperature was 11.3C.
