Door knock axe attack
THE victim of a terrifying home invasion has warned other householders to take care when they answer the door.
The 67-year-old man was terrorised by a pair of axe-wielding bandits at his Warrane home on Monday night.
"They knocked on my door and I opened it up and in they came," the man said.
"I just didn't look. I never even thought. I just opened it, which I usually do."
During a 10-minute ordeal, the pair ransacked the man's home while repeatedly demanding money.
"They were masked and they had a tomahawk or an axe and they threatened me with it," he said.
"You get someone waving that around in front of you, it's not a very nice feeling I can assure you.
"They wanted money: 'Where's your f...ing wallet? Where's your f...ing money?' they said."
The man said the pair ransacked his home before fleeing with prescription tablets.
He said he now felt unsafe in his own home and urged people to check who was at the door before opening it to avoid becoming a victim too.
Police have appealed for information on the offenders who were described as 175cm tall, of slim build, with black hooded jumpers and blue jeans.
The man's neighbours reported hearing a vehicle leaving the area at the time of the offence and police appealed for any information, particularly on any suspicious vehicles seen in the area at the time.
Anyone with information was urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
The victim said he hoped his experience would be a lesson to others. "It might just make other people aware," he said.
"Be very, very wary. Look before you open the door." |
